Happy Monday! Here’s to all that a new week has in store! Goodness but the first rays of morning sunshine have been so pretty the last couple of days. I snapped this photo on Wednesday, I think. It seems like every morning they highlight another part of the room and I find it rather magical.
It was a nice weekend here. Lots of sunshine. A bit cool but perfect with a cozy sweater. Especially on Saturday morning when we headed out to a brand new farmer’s market so close to home. Most of our local farm markets are either a good drive away and/or are on Sunday mornings. This one started on Saturday and is almost a bike ride away. Almost. (If I were in good shape…which I am not.) It was a successful market, to be sure, which was fun.
There was a good selection but it was not overwhelming. Just the right amount of vendors and variety, in my humble opinon. I bought a few things including some new to me coffee. I think I was “sighing” about coffee in a recent post. Lately, it just has not been that tasty. Well, welcome this new coffee and, well, I’m singing a different tune. It is just that delicious. I also picked up a small bag of scones which were just as yummy. A good cup of coffee can only better when paired with a delicious scone!
I was thinking back over the past week. Considering what I might include in today’s post and found myself, several times, thinking, “I wonder if…” And, so, I thought I would just ask the questions outloud. Nothing major, to be sure. But I am curious and I wonder, have you…
Heard of and/or tried this new pastry craze? Fruit shaped desserts? You can read about them here. And see pictures. This is just one article. There are gazillions (well, a lot). I’m not really on social media but, when I mentioned them at home, I was told they are “all over the internet.” (Thank you, son.) There is a new coffee shop that figures these desserts not far from me and we tried it the other night. I must say the desserts are very impressive and look very much like fruit. Between the four of us who were there (for the first time), the reviews were mixed. The taste was not necesarily bad. Just different.
Silly me…I choose a dessert that did not look like a fruit. I know. I did not realize, until after the fac,t what I was missing – ha. My chance to be “cool.” I just liked the description of this one. The outside (or what one would think is an icing layer) is very gelatinous. Not what you are expecting. So, different. Would I try them again? Um, probably. I mean, I did feel fancy:) And, yes, they come with a fancy price!
Heard about and/or seen this new movie? A Great Awakening. “…..a 2026 American historical drama directed and written by Joshua Enck. The film follows the friendship between George Whitefield and Benjamin Franklin, and Whitefield’s impact during the Great Awakening religious movement.” It was put out by Sight and Sound Theater and was so well done. It is not a documentary, per se, and is based on true events. I did leave with a few questions but, overall, I so enjoyed not only this film but our evening out with friends earlier this week. If you have seen it, what did you think? Whether or not you have seen the film, I am curious what you think about Ben Franklin. Was he a Christian? Not sure? Is that what you were taught in school? Like I said, just wondering.
Ever wondered just how many vehicles it takes to move visiting Royalty down the interstate? Well, let me tell you. As you probably know, the King and Queen were visiting last week. After spending some time in DC (and doing DC visitor things), they were to visit Front Royal. About 30 miles from where I leave and, I suppose, about 70 miles from Downtown. A straight shot west on I-66. (Why Front Royal is anybody’s guess!? Some questions have no answers.) We happened to be driving on the same I-66 (but eastbound) when everyone was on their way. I got my husband to pull over, on the shoulder, so we could watch. Watch vehicles. Lots of vehicles. It started with 28 motormen (police officers on motorcycles), followed by 6 local police cruisers and then came the black Secret Service SUVs. There were 24. Twenty-four! (There was a limo somewhere amidst those black SUVs). And, if that was not enough, there were 2 ambulances (again ??) bringing up the rear along with a few more cruisers. I stopped counting at this point.
I dunno – but does that seem like a bit too much? And to go to Front Royal?!?! But, I should stop there. One final question/thought (just as deep as the others….)
Are your roses blooming yet? Mine are!!:) Well, they just started this week. Our first knock-out rose of the season! When I think of roses, I think of summer. But I don’t want to get ahead of myself. It is still exciting though! Anything new blooming in your yard or garden? I hope so.
Have a great week ahead friends!! I look forward to visiting your blogs today or tomorrow!!
I didn’t realize that the King and Queen visited Front Royal. That’s a bit odd. I have a sister-in-law and also a couple of friends who live in Front Royal. I could understand if they visited Winchester, but Front Royal is a bit of a puzzle. As you said, some questions have no answers.
I watched a documentary on YouTube about George Whitefield and Benjamin Franklin. I’m sure the movie that you saw was done quite well with it being done by Sight and Sound. Benjamin Franklin was a deist, only believing that God exists but not in a personal way, which makes the friendship between him and Whitefield even more curious to me.
Hope your week is wonderful!
Dianna, Truly…of all the places to take the King and Queen. Front Royal? We actually have some pretty places in Virginia. Definitely a lot of historical places. So many other places that would have been my choice to take visiting royals!! There were definitely some interesting takeaways from the movie. They did not say that Franklin become a Christian. He definitely was a scoffer in the movie…but the ending might have “implied” he finally accepted. But it was vague, for sure. I do not believe he did – just my opinion. Thanks for comment and joining the conversation!:) I hope you have a wonderful day, my friend!
Nice to have a Farmer’s Market near you. Our town has one on Sundays but they will open Memorial Day weekend. I too have see a ton of videos about the fruit shaped desserts but haven’t tried one yet. Not even sure where to get one.
Hena, I hope you can find a cafe (or someplace) to try the new desserts. I don’t think you will be disappointed! Happy Monday –
I guess I’m living under a rock- I have not heard of those desserts (though I’m not on SM at all so that may explain that!) and I’ve not heard of the movie you mentioned. I will check it out. I did know the royals were in town. I read an article that juxtaposed the two speeches that Trump and the King (but what about NO KINGS???) made. Trump’s was so good in my opinion! Have a great day!
I’m sorry, I’ve never heard of those desserts. I do love a good Farmer’s Market and Lakeland has a great one every Saturday (except for August – too hot)! Those motorcades always seem a bit too much, but having something bad happen and not being prepared would be even worse, I guess. It’s fun that you got to see it go by!! Have a blessed week ahead!
I’m behind the times I guess. I haven’t seen nor heard about those fruit desserts. But it would be strange to see one thing, but it taste like something else. And my goodness, the motorcade!! I looked it up and Google says they went to Front Royal for a block party celebrating America’s 250 birthday. Not sure the internet is telling the truth on this one 🙂
