Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I thought I would start the week with Three Things about the Weekend. And One Thing I Might Change. Just a weekend in review truthfully…but everything needs a catchy title, right?
ONE – we celebrated a birthday this weekend. My son Jordan’s birthday. It was low-key, as celebrations go, but exactly what he asked for and what he enjoys. We spent the afternoon together and then went out for dinner. He eats carnivore. As in, completely opposite of his mom. Not only does he only eat meat, he is very strict with his diet. However, all caution was thrown to the wind on Saturday. He thought he would really enjoy some pizza (aka plenty of yummy carbs) and we drove to a highly-recommended pizza place. Only to be a bit disappointed. It was basically a take-out spot (very small and only two small tables – mostly for waiting) and, although I am sure the pizza is yummy (according to hundreds of reviews), it was not exactly what we were hoping for in order to enjoy a full evening. We ended up at Cheesecake Factory. Definitely not disppointed there. Jordan really enjoys the extra large portions as well as the delicious bread. Yes, carbs:)
We even splurged on a slice of their cheesecake only because it was a birthday. We all agreed we could do without the dessert. Not to mention, we had delicious raspberry chocolate chip cookies at home. This is Jordan’s annual birthday request. And I have to admit, these cookies are really good. Here’s the recipe link if you need a new cookie in your life (and who does not??) If the weekend included nothing else (and there was not much), it was a wonderful day celebrating Jordan! He is definitely one of my most favorite people on the planet!!
TWO – I added the eyes to my crochet animal. It is supposed to be a bunny. It has a very poofy bunny tail (which I forgot to photograph but is the cutest part of the whole thing) but the ears are, well, so big. More like a mouse. Or even an elephant. But she is sweet and I made her myself. She makes me smile. And, considering that I have been a bit lazy and did not pull out any of my spring/Easter bunnies, she is taking front and center place as far as spring decor is concerned. Oh poor bunnies. Still stuck in their bins. Just typing it makes me want to go pull out at least a few. We will see.
I have seen improvement with my crochet (admittedly there is a long way to go) and I am actually starting to enjoy it. I think I would like to start “a project.” Not sure I am quite ready for a blanket but something more than rows and rows of practice stitches. Again, we will see.
THREE – We had such a nice morning in Junior Church yesterday. It was Palm Sunday. We had some fun games, a cute craft (we made a donkey), and had a good lesson on Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem the week before His betrayal, arrest and death. The crowd that day was so fickle – praising the Lord as they shouted Hosanna, and only a week later demanding his crucifixion. We talked about honoring and praising the Lord – not with palm branches but with our lives. Living lives that bring glory to Him. But not just on Sunday but even when we are not at church. The children have such good and interesting thoughts and ideas regarding “big” topics. It makes my heart smile, for sure. We will be singing next week, for Easter, as well as quoting a part of the Easter passage from Luke 24.
“Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain other with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. ANd it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, “Why seek ye the living among the dead?” He is not here, but is risen….” (emphasis mine)
You know, I said there was one thing I would change about the weekend. But I think this is a good place to end. I hope everyone has a wonderful week leading up to Easter. I pray your thoughts will turn often, throughout the week, to Easter and all that it means for us as believers. We are so blessed to have a risen savior! Thanks for stopping by friends…and Happy Easter (week) to you!:)
Enjoyed reading about your weekend! Wow, the carnivore diet is quite different from yours! Glad your son took a break from it for a day to celebrate with food. I hope he had a wonderful day! Your project is so cute. Your words about Palm Sunday are so good, wise (as always :)) and timely. Thanks for sharing!
It is interesting how different how eating habits/styles are! And my husband is another completely different story. But we make it work:) Always so glad when you stop by, Maria. Have a great week ahead!!
Happy Birthday to your son! It sounds like the perfect celebration for him. Thank you for the cookie recipe. Peyton is my baker, so I will share the recipe with her! Cheesecake Factory is a great place to celebrate. I am always way too full for dessert there, too! I hope you have a lovely and blessed Holy Week, my friend.
Thank you, BillieJo. We were definitely too full for dessert. Thought we needed to order it for the birthday – but we probably will not do that again! Have a wonderful week as well!
Happy Birthday to your son, Jennifer! It’s so fun that he requests the same raspberry cookies every year for his birthday.
Your bunny is adorable!
Junior church sounds like a wonderful time. I know how much you enjoy being a part of that ministry. xx
Dianna – you are correct. Junior Church is such a joy and blessing! Thanks for the birthday wishes. I pray he has a good year ahead!
Honoring and praising the Lord with our lives. I pray along those lines every day as I seek to worship Him with a holy life. Some days are more worshipful than others …..
Beautiful post.
Yes, they are Barbara:) Trying to be purposeful with my worship this week. So glad you stopped by…have a great week!
Happy Birthday to your son, Jordan. Cheesecake Factory sounds an excellent place to celebrate and Raspberry chocolate chip cookies sound delicious.
Your little bunny is very sweet and I hope it encourages you to try something else.
Have a happy week as we prepare to celebrate on Easter Sunday.
Thanks Beverley!!
Hello Jennifer ~ Thank you for your visit to my blog. (Wanda) and I loved your comment about your Bible Study in Acts. I see from your blog we have much in common. I enjoyed your post and meeting your son. Our son is on the same diet as your son, and looks and feels great. He will be 60 in October.
I do hope you will come back and visit again. I plan to put you on my list of blogs I enjoy.
Happy Birthday wishes to Jordan!
Wanda
Thank you so much for stopping by and for your comment, Wanda! I look forward to visiting back and forth more in the days and weeks ahead!! Happy Easter to you!
Those raspberry/chocolate chip cookies sounds wonderful. I am a sucker for that raspberry/chocolate combination and usually ask for a chocolate raspberry cake for my birthday (though I wouldn’t pass up cheesecake either!). It sounds like your son had a wonderful birthday celebration.
I never got any of my Easter/bunny decor out of storage this year either. I looked at the bin today but felt like it was too late to bother.
You are right, Joanne – chocolate and raspberry make a delicious combination!! And, yes, a bit too late for bunnnies. Sigh.
