Currently: August 2023

Hello friends!  It was, apparently, a month ago that I returned to blogging after a somewhat extended break.  My first post back was a Currently post for July and, well, here we are and it is time for the August edition.  A whole month….and it has fun to reconnect to so many friends here through our blogs.  There are also others who do not blog but visit here regularly and I enjoy staying connected with them as well.  I have already mentioned it but will again – I so appreciate everyone’s thoughtful comments and encouraging words.  Thank you to each of you.

Enough intro…..let’s move ahead with this month’s Currently.  As always, you can find and enjoy the entire link-up at my friend Jennifer’s blog.  Not only can you find the link-up there but, yesterday, she had the most incredible story of a missions trip she took several years ago.  You should read it.  I told her that I am not praying hard enough for our missionaries on American reservations!?!  Oh my.  But, I digress.  So, moving on.  Currently, I am:

LOVING – quite a few things lately.  Of course, there are the memories of my trip last week.  My goodness but we put a lot into five days, including visits with several different friends who live (sorta) in the area.  It was (amazingly) great to see all of them.  Also loving:  the new earrings I bought on my trip (I’ve been wearing them on repeat) as well as that cute greenery I carried home on the plane, the return of my eyelashes (woo hoo!), the new bands I bought for my Fitbit (they are stretchy and so much more comfortable), the recent break in our super high temperatures lately (it is currently 67 degrees!!), and listening to the Junior Church kiddos practice the songs we will be singing on Sunday.  One song hits a rather high note and they are too cute screeching it out:)

LOOKING FORWARD TO – again, several things (in completely random order):  celebrating my brother’s upcoming birthday (someone is turning 60!), visiting with my nephews (I see them so rarely), a vacation with my hubbie next month, and, of course, the end of my treatments.  This one is several months away but, trust me, I am looking forward to the end!!

STARTING – to implement the ideas/principles I have read and re-read in the Eat 4 You Blood Type book that I mentioned recently in my Share Four Somethings post.  This book is intriguing, if not a bit fascinating to me.  I am literally just beginning but I will say yesterday’s bloodwork (that I have before my monthly treatments) showed my glucose down and in the healthy range!  For the past 12 weeks, it has bordered just 8 -10 points too high and I have tried (and tried) to get that number down.  But in vain.  It seems too early to actually attribute the healthy number to the changes I’ve made – but I will take it!  And, yes, it motivates me to carry on and push forward!

THINKING – about my friend, Juanita.  She is in Heaven now but yesterday would have been her birthday here and, so, she has been on my mind a lot lately.  Yes, I miss her but her testimony of a life well-lived – a life that persevered through the good, the bad, through real joys and unbelievably hard – continues to impact me.  At 93, she had experienced much and she remained faithful.  She did what she could through life’s different seasons and her joy, that came from within, was not dependent on circumstances or each day’s outcome.  I have no idea how many decades the Lord will give me here on earth but whether I make it to my 90s or not, I hope to have a lasting impact – if even on just a few.

WEARING – a lot of the wrong colors.  Apparently.  Not only have I been intrigued by the blood type diet, I somehow became curious about the seasons approach to color analysis for your clothes and make-up etc.  I thought it was a “trend” that had long since faded away but, no, it is still very much “a thing” and is really rather interesting.  I have taken more color quizzes than I care to admit to…but they all agree.  It seems I am a summer.  Who knew??  And all the colors they recommend for a summer, like myself, are ones I have very few of in my closet.  I only mention this – not because anyone cares which season I am – but I do find it funny how one simple on-line quiz (or several if you are obsessive like myself) can impact your thinking.  I was shopping with a friend the other day and saw a couple cute dresses out for fall (at Cracker Barrel of all places!!  do you think cute clothes when you think of Cracker Barrel).  Although they were cute, I quickly put them back because “they were not my color.”  My friend asked me who told me that……well, the internet of course!!  As really good friends do, she completely understood:)

Well that is it “currently” around here.  I’d love it if you share something you are loving this week.  Or last week.  Whenever, share the love:)  And here’s to a beautiful weekend ahead!!  Come back on Monday –

  1. I once took a course called “Dress Your Truth” which had been recommended by a blogger. It was very interesting and yet a little bit “woo woo” out there 🙂 But those color results make some sense and yet, can really mess you up, wardrobe wise! Years later, that same blogger announced that she was no longer dressing according to what was supposed to be her color and style, but embracing what she liked instead. Then she got kind of wild 🙂 The internet is so entertaining!
And I LOVE the clothes at Cracker Barrel!! Who knew?

Something I love lately…embroidery. I just finished one project and am ready for another one!

    Have a great weekend Jennifer!

  2. I do like so many of the clothes found at Cracker Barrel; though I have never bought any since I definitely feel like I would need to try them on. I am always tempted to buy a lot of the cute things I find there. Yay for getting your glucose numbers down! I just added that book to my library list.

  3. I am liking the pictures in this post and all the parenthesis in your writing (I am prone to using them as well!). Your week away sounds like it was good for the soul. How fun to have an upcoming celebration to look forward to, a vacation and the end your treatments. Have a great weekend!

  4. Hello! I have heard about color matching but have yet to really do it. I tend to wear light blue because my eyes are blue! Sorry about your friend. WE miss them so when they go. Have a nice weekend, my friend.
